LIGHT. It’s one of the most vital resources in our homes, yet so often it’s taken for granted. In fact, the number of people on our planet who are living without light or some of the other commodities that we attribute to adequate shelter is staggering.
Decent and stable housing is vital to the health of the world’s economies, communities, and populations. Not only does decent housing provide a roof over someone’s head, it provides stability for families, a sense of dignity and pride, physical safety and security, and increased educational and employment opportunities.

1.6 billion - The number of people who have inadequate shelter around the world. Put another way, that’s 1 in 4 people on the planet who live in conditions that harm their health, safety, prosperity, or opportunities.
A Habitat for Humanity volunteer helps serve a family in need every 4 minutes, which has helped improve the living conditions for 6.8 million people since they were founded.
With projects completed in over 1400 communities in the US, and over 70 countries wordwide, the impact that's been made is incredible. But there's still so much work to be done.
