Rustic Chandeliers

While chandeliers are often associated with the high-end elegance of mansions and upper-class hotels, there are many newer rustic chandeliers with a more unfinished farmhouse look. The combination of elegance and rustic qualities makes for very compelling pieces that are bound to be the center of attention in any room. Though rustic chandeliers typically have a modern rough-hewn appearance, they can look at home in almost any type of room and fit with almost any type of decor as long as you are smart about hanging them.

Start Small

Farmhouse chandeliers come in all shapes and sizes, making it easy to find one that fits your existing space. The most common locations for hanging chandeliers are foyers and dining areas, but you can make them look at home in almost any room of the house. However, it is important that you don’t choose a chandelier that is too big or the wrong shape for the space. Make sure that the chandelier is well away from the walls. Suspending it over a centrally located table is often best. Chandeliers in dining rooms can be a little on the large side, but those hung in other areas should be smaller.

Hang the Chandelier High

A chandelier that is hung too low risks being an obstacle for the heads of taller friends and family. The chandelier should be suspended from the ceiling and should hang low enough that it properly illuminates the area below it. However, it shouldn’t be so low that it acts as an impediment. When first hanging the chandelier, check carefully to make sure that it is at an appropriate height.

Don’t Overwhelm the Room

Rustic chandeliers are often one of the centerpieces of a room. For this reason, you should strive to keep the furnishings and decor around them minimal. Too many elaborate pieces may make your space look crowded and overwhelming.
