When you want to add a “wow” factor to your dining room, consider adding a chandelier to catch the eye of guests in your home. They add both sparkle and style to the room, and create a focal point for the space. Make sure you surround your chandelier with recessed lighting to brighten the space. Chandeliers are more decorative in nature, so you do need the additional light source.

If a chandelier over your dining room table is not a desirable option, consider stringing a few pendant lights together to make a similar impact.

Installing a dimmer for your dining room lighting is always a good option to think about. The dimmer allows for mood lighting capabilities. You can leave the light at full brightness for general task lighting, but also lower the bulbs to make them glow like candlelight during a formal dinner. With a dining room, make sure you are balancing the light with the furniture. If you have a grand dining table, a grand light fixture should be installed. The lighting should relate to the dining room style.

If you do not want to install recessed lighting in your dining room, track lighting is another option. Track lighting can be utilized to highlight other areas of importance in the room, such as a buffet or a piece of artwork. Sconces are another option to highlight these types of pieces.

Keep in mind that you will want a variety of light sources involved in your dining room lighting. The more options you have, the more control you have to change the mood in the room. All in all, dining room lighting must be beautiful and functional. Choosing light fixtures for general light, task light, and accent light are all essential to create an environment conducive to formal dinners, family time, homework, and more!
