Tips for Lighting Up Your Bar with Pendants

Ideas for how to spruce up your at-home bar

Having your very own at-home bar makes hosting and entertaining a given. It brings people together and allows for guests to congregate in one central area. In short, it’s where the action is! That’s why it’s so important for your bar area to be designed in a way that reflects your interior design style, and also in a way that is functional enough for frequent use.

Bar Lighting Tips

Here we will share useful tips for improving the lighting design of your bar area. First let’s look at the shape of the bar. Straight, rectangular bars typically seat 3 to 5 people at once. L-shaped bars feature a corner and symmetrical lengths, seating the same number of people on each side. U-shaped bars tend to be larger and seat people around a curve. Once you determine the shape of the bar you have or plan to have, then you can choose the lighting that will pair nicely with the bar.

Pendant lights are the most commonly used type of fixtures for the bar and counter area. Available in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors – you have the opportunity to choose the perfect pendant lights for your bar. Install three or five pendants in a line parallel to the bar or counter. Multi light pendants, which are great for smaller bars, are also available.

To determine how high you should hang your pendant, visit this guide on pendant lighting. Here you will also find information on how many pendants are ideal for the width of your bar as well as how far apart they should be spaced.

One of the most common questions we receive about pendant lights is whether or not mini pendants should be used. Mini pendants typically have a shade width of 6 inches or less. The size of your pendant can be determined by the width of your bar, and how many lights you want to use.

Pendant lights above the bar can be great conversation pieces and add a dose of fun to your bar area. You don’t have to break the bank to create a luxurious bar. Here are our Design Team’s favorite bar pendants for $250 or less.
