Mandy's Tips for selecting the perfect modern fan
- What is the ideal ceiling height for my Modern Fan?
We recommend hanging the fan as far down from the ceiling as it is visually appropriate because the more space between the blades and the ceiling, the more effectively your fan can circulate and distribute air.
- What is the best fan blade diameter?
In most cases 50-inch to 56-inch blade spans are the most appropriate. 42-inch to 46-inch blade span should be used in smaller, more narrow spaces or when there are architectural elements restricting air flow.
Modern fan offers most of our products with a choice between G9 halogen or energy saving compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) which offers 75% energy savings and lamp life up to 10x longer than incandescent or halogen bulbs but does not offer dimming capabilities. When evaluating fluorescent solutions, divide the traditional light bulb’s wattage by four for its incandescent or halogen equivalent.
- What fan controls should I use?
Modern Fan Company does not use pull chains to operate its ceiling fans’ speed. In order to operate your fan at different speeds and switch the light on and off independently, you must select the appropriate control. Unless stated otherwise, all controls are intended for use of only one fan. Whether using a third party remote or Modern Fan Company product, it is important that the products be operated with “fan speed controls” and not generic “dimmers” or rheostats.
Although all Modern Fan Company models are rated and marked as “Suitable for Damp Location” the appearance of the fan can vary due to the different climate zones. A damp rating does not guarantee that corrosion will not occur in exposed locations and we encourage you to closely consider these factors when selecting ceiling fans for use in damp locations. The brushed aluminum and galvanized finished will typically outlast all others in our collection because these surfaces will not rust or peel. Our bright nickel and matte nickel finishes are also well suited for exposure to reasonable conditions. Remember also to consider the blade construction because over time, plywood is subject to warping and delamination.
